I think this semester was very challenging, but very rewarding as well. I'm not sure how my grades will look this semester but I'm guessing I will have my first C. I should quit being a snob about that anyway. I really hope I can deliver better stuff next semester.

Behance Demo Reel Reviews
JEREMY SAINDON
http://www.behance.net/jwalkr
This guy's demo reel was undeniably crisp and everything was definitely an 8 and up- I can say one thing however, and that is well above 8's everywhere. Even the thumbnail- which is what caught my eye and made me click his demo reel. I liked the music at first but after a while I kinda thought the lyrics got in the way of the piece, and as well as the last shot I'm very on the fence about, but I can tell you a lot of things were right on with the reel.

This person has a lot of great feature film work that has a bunch going for it, but what I think is great about this demo reel (and I've been reading up on other places that this is a VERY important part) is that you have to tell what exactly you did in the project, and I think he is doing that very well without it disturbing the piece a lot.

This demo reel was really good, and really showed this person's chops, as far as 3D went- you could tell that was her specialty, and that's what she liked to do. However I think that kind of hurts her in the later part of her piece where there is a lot of animals 3D animated and they just aren't at the level as the others. I'm guessing that maybe this person is a little too attached to it, and is just putting it in there to show she can animate animals, maybe?

Final Ideas
So, for my final, I would like to really really take my current film to the next level and make it as top-notch as possible, as well as make a polished script for a Short film.
I chose to do these two things because I am very very bad a making scripts- thus I want to get better so I don't have to rely on a script writer or any other person. In order to be a good filmmaker, a legit filmmaker.

Travel Fellowship
Going abroad is an opportunity few get to experience in their life, especially in their young adult years, yet it is so crucial for the life of an artist. If given this opportunity, I would choose to go to London to Attend the Sci-Fi London Film festival, and document my trip both digitally and traditionally by filling up at the least two sketchbooks. The purpose of this trip would not only be to understand and experience another culture but to further my capabilities as a film maker. I have experienced many film festivals in the US, and afterwards my work has always been tremendously more informed of the standard that the film industry has. With this trip, I think it would further the success of my projects and MCA's presence as not only excelling at fine arts, but digital arts as well.
The specific questions I plan to address are whether there are huge differences between European an American narrative. I would also like to answer why sci-fi and fantasy-adventure is although one of the hardest genres yet also one that profits tremendously both finacially and with career exposure; such as the Harry Potter Films or Star Wars. I would be the best person for this trip because I would use my time as wisely as possible, my experiences organizing events and connecting with others in the industry is paramount. If my work does not speak for itself, then you can see

Internships!
So, I've been compiling a spreadsheet that has been getting longer and longer for my summer internships. Gadsby thinks this was a good idea, and I also am going to take some of gadsby's advice in that most of these internships are not posted with any specific deadline, so I will probably be e-mailing them asking for one.
Here is the spreadsheet
MY 3 internships are BUZZ MEDIA, COMCAST - G4/STYLE/E!, and definitely CARTOON NETWORK.
I chose these three because of their very specific duties and responsibilities in their job descriptions, and also because I like the programming and shows that all three are involved in.

Script Assignment Write-Up
So writing the script was pretty hard and tiring, I kept writing things but then feeling like they didn't sound right at all, so I would start over. It wasn't all bad, sometimes I would get on a roll or have good input from people's real life experiences, but I think for the most part I got overwhelmed with worrying about finishing it. In DC1 I didn't do a lot of the script writing at all and now I realize the challenge of doing it not only for myself but by myself primarily. I also kicked my idea around with a lot of people and I agree that the idea is funny but it's barely readable in the script. I hope today's class can give me insight into what I should do in that realm.

Development and Technique
Self Critique from Technique Exercise:
So, after this assignment I learned that 1600 really is the highest ISO you can go or else it degrades the footage with a lot of noise no matter how you try to configure it. For the purposes of this assignment I hope it's ok- since it wasn't about ISO or lighting, but about panning and tracking. But I learned something and realize that what Jill says is right on the money.

What I'm going to do:
I want to complete 2 films this semester, both shorts.
With those I want to enter into video contests and festivals.
What I'm going to do:
- LOOK AT OTHER STUDENT FILMS
- KNOW MY LIMITATIONS
So, 1st Idea:
Lesbian Romantic Comedy
Elevator Pitch:
A lesbian, tired of being rejected because she's not a man, disguises herself in order to prove love goes beyond gender.
Theme:
The movie's theme or goal is there are no boundaries when falling in love with someone.
Synopsis:
ACT I
The insighting incident is our main character, Charlie, is at this gay club and all the girls she approaches turn out to be straight. We do this by showing Charlie's POV (Who we haven't been introduced to or seen yet) and we see girls turning her down in an escalating manner. The final thing is a drunk girl throws a drink in her face and we cut to her face, dripping. From there we go into a little narration and the actual story.
The next day Charlie meets a girl that she is incredibly interested in right off the bat. She also realizes that she might be straight, and decides a crazy obnoxious plan in order to win her heart. She tells her friends this and they, after some convincing, agree.
ACT II
There is a transofrmation process and their is a montage sequence of her getting her hair done, new clothes, learning to walk the walk by her straight male friends and others, etc,. She meets the girl again and realize they have a common hobby of running-they start talking and meet up multiple times, but her cover is nearly blown many times. Their relationship builds over time...
ACT III
Their relationship is reaching a climax when Charlie is about to to tell the girl her feelings (yet to be named), when it is revealed by some mishap that Charlie is actually a girl, when that happens there is a blow-up and all hope is lost for Charlie. Somehow they reconcile but I'm not sure right now.

Self Critique
So far in the course, I realize that I have not lived up to my own expectations. Knowing that I think right now is a transition time for me to turn shit around. Like for real. I realize now that if you don't have a passion for the film your making or planning to make then you have no right making that film, cause it will just be a waste of everything. I think I have good ideas now and I'm developing them fully; the only thing left is to start churning out good work. I'm also on the fence about whether the graffiti documentary can be completed this semester, but I am actively making an effort to change that as we speak.
I'm a little worried about mid-term (more-so how my grade looks at mid-term) but as long as I light a fire under my ass I'm sure I can get my work done.

So I saw accidently clicked on this facebook ad today, and I found something I'm really interested in:
http://www.redhotand.us/
I want to enter but not sure what my content should lean toward. They seem like they really want a compelling and new conversation about HIV and AIDS, so I might just freewrite and talk to some others in memphis (Hildebran, Ramsey) about what I could put forward. I haven't seen that many documentaries or movies about AIDS so while I'm searching for content I might look at those as well. I'm gonna search for more contest like this one, and hopefully the more I enter the better I get at filmmaking, the more movies I have, and maybe I will win one!

Art School of the Dead
Here is the outline of the movie:
I am also playing with the idea of having the ending be the beginning of the movie (dawn after the outbreak is over) but I'm probably going wait and decide after I test shoot.
1. Main Character Introduction
a. Minimal Narration and a lot of establishing shots
b. We presume the Main Character is narrating but he actually isn't.
c. Scenes included: People falling asleep in the maclabs, classes with boring lectures, etc.,
2. Zombie outbreak starts in the woodshop
a. This will be set up like the other inserts, and have an establishing shot.
b. Kenny will be teaching them how to work things in the woodshop.
c. After he's done a student cuts her finger accidently using some equipment, and sucks the blood out.
d. The outbreak occurs finally and all but 1 person (our main character) get out, this is the first visual
introduction of her. We see a zombie crawling out of the woodshop as she runs down the hall.
3.Main Character meets secondary characters
a. Main character goes to security desk on basement floor and they do not believe her until they hear
screaming, they head to the woodshop.
b. Main Character sees them get eaten and trys to close doors when a survivor comes and she lets him
in, they chain the doors closes momentarily while they head to the metals studio to get equipment.
4. Main character and secondary character(Sam) are getting weapons while in metals studio (insert awesome
scene of them getting prepared.
5. Main characters converse about the best plan of action. They decide to head to the top floor, rid it of zombies and then use it as a fortress and to call for help.
a. They start heading up to the 1st floor, and while doing so are joined by others. First, they must get
the key to the 3rd floor room which will act as their stronghold.
6.We introduce other sections into the film such as:
a. Don (the security guard) is patrolling in the security truck and as he rolls up the front of the school
we see a zombie come out form the (bottom under the stairs) and attack his truck. He reacts: Aw
Hell Nah! And speeds out of the park, running over zombies in his way.
7. Once they reach the first floor they are encountered by zombie faculty which they must kill in order to get to the right tower, at this point zombies have reached all parts of the college.

Art School of the Dead
ART SCHOOL OF THE DEAD
Setting: Wood Shop, Kenny is teaching Freshman (presumed) about the safety presidures on the tools.
Kenny: Safety is our first priority, Don’t use something you don’t know how to use. (kenny drones on about the safety procedures)
3 out of 7 students are drinking coffee at this point, not including our protagonist. There are 8 people in total counting the Kenny.
Protagonists name is Haley and she is a tall blonde and a freshman.
Kenny droans on and we cut between exerts of him showing them the different machines. The students are all bored and indifferent, texting and talking to one another. Kenny looks at them and makes sure they are listening once.
We introduce Haley with a tracking shot that goes into a closeup of her face. (This is not the first time we see her in the film) She is bored and disinterested, her safety goggles are on her head. Kenny’s tutorial is almost over
(medium shot of him in between students bodies)
Kenny: I have never in my own career had a single major accident happen on my watch.
Cut to an extreme closeup
Kenny: Never. (extremely serious acting)
(pause)
Kenny: Alright, good luck with your projects! Don’t hesitate if you need me to show you anything esle.
(Everyone leaves quickly disperses)
Haley goes to the bathroom and we follow her until we get to the door (we close in on the door being closed and the shot goes to black and cuts back to people in the woodshop.
There is a minimal amount of music as we reenter a panning shot of the woodshop, a student is finished working in her sketchbook and proceeds to take a sip of coffee then go towards the bandsaw. This is a tracking shot now, she starts cutting when we cut to the front of her and see something coming up behind her.
Boy: BOO! (this is not what he will say, probably RAA!)
Girl: AH! (she cuts her finger)
Kenny: Are you fucking serious? Kenny comes from his office with bandaids and alcohol.
(there is a closeup of the girl putting her finger into her mouth.
Boy: I’m sorry! I-
Kenny: (under his breathe) Dumbass. (aloud) Ok, so now we all know it’s not a good idea to do stupid shit like that in the woodshop.
Girl: It’s ok it’s just a little cut, it doesn’t hurt.
A student who has been working in his sketchbook and drinking coffee starts to hunch over the table he is at. His hand tips the coffee and it begins to poor. The person across from him looks at him quizzically. His face is pale and part of his skin seems to be peeling.
Girl 1: Are you ok?
The boy across from her is breathing shallowly, and unnaturally.
A strain of a zombie virus has seeped into the coffee of MCA and contaminates all who partake in it, people who are fatigued, and sleepless are especially susceptible to it. The story is based around 2 main characters who are in Group 1 and Group 2 they appear in those orders and intersect once during the whole of the movie. The 2 main characters are male and female. The entirety of the movie is from a Thursday night to dawn on Saturday. the following transpires on Friday.(this is not the first scene, but it is the first scene which we encounter the zombies.
